Sweater Weather

So it's officially sweater weather in New England, which means I'm on the hunt for the perfect sweater. Fair Isle sweaters are becoming more and more popular this season and I can't wait to buy one! My favorite now is definitely the Vineyard Vines Harbor Fair Isle Crewneck (pictured on the left). Perfect for Thanksgiving and holiday parties. The lobster fair isle has been all over Pinterest lately, so fun.

On the left, Vineyard Vines Harbor Fair Isle Crewneck $165.
On right, Vineyard Vines Lobster Crewneck Sweater $145.

I'm also loving these two from J.Crew. The detailing on the sweater on the left is perfect.
On left, Jeweled Fair Isle Striped Sweater $138. On right, Harley Of Scotland for J.Crew Fair Isle Sweater $185.

Although I'm not a big fan of Urban Outfitters (completely overrated in my opinion) my roommate has this cropped Fair Isle sweater that I adore. Only complaint is that it's a cropped sweater so wearing it with a high waisted skirt is a must. Urban Renewal Cropped Fair Isle Sweater $59.
I will definitely be purchasing one of these sweaters before I go back to school! I'll keep you guys posted on which one I choose!

Current Obsessions II

It's time for a list of this weeks current obsessions! It's been a crazy week because of finals and trying to get everything together before Thanksgiving break, I couldn't be happier to be home! So excited to spend Thanksgiving with my family. So let's get into it!

1. About Time

I cannot believe how much I loved this movie! The trailer just does not do it justice. I saw it with my boyfriend last weekend and absolutely loved it, I definitely recommend it to anyone who loves Rachel McAdam's or anyone that likes romantic comedies. So funny that Rachel McAdam's was in another time traveling movie!

2. Say Something - A Great Big World

So beautiful. I heard it on the radio and I've been obsessed ever since.

3. Tacky Christmas Party Outfits

Boyfriend's hockey team will be hosting a tacky Christmas party next month so I'm obviously already planning my outfit. I love this skirt idea, so fun! I always have such a hard time trying to find ugly sweaters so I was happy to hear that the party isn't limited to tacky sweaters only.

4. Corgi's

I have had serious puppy fever lately. Which may or may not be because I've dedicated a Pinterest board to Corgi's… Might have to start saving up ;)

Homemade Gift Ideas

As I mentioned in my last post, for my upcoming anniversary with my boyfriend I decided to make him a homemade present. Partly because our anniversary is directly in between his birthday and Christmas and partly because I think when done right, homemade gifts can be super thoughtful/meaningful. So let's get into it!

1. "Open When" Letters. These have been all over twitter and tumblr lately. Although they might be a little overdone I think they can be really cute when done tastefully. I've seen this done a few different ways but I think my favorite idea's are: Open when…. you are up late or wake up in the middle of the night, you need to remember how much I love you, you need a pep talk, and you want to smile at a memory. There are a million different situations that can be written about so I definitely suggest this idea for anyone that wants to do a simple, sweet gift.

2. Year Of Notes. A friend of mine did this for her boyfriend for their two year anniversary. She sat down on a rainy day and wrote down 365 little notes. The notes were pretty simple, usually just a phrase or a word. They can be encouraging, or sweet, or funny, anything that you want. She bought a little jar and decorated it and it came out so cute. Her boyfriend seriously read one every day for a year after that. So sweet.

3. Treat Of The Month. My Mom actually gave me this idea because she knows how much I enjoy baking. The idea is that for the anniversary/holiday or whatever it may be you make your significant other their favorite dessert. And when you give them the dessert you include a note inducting them into the "Treat of the month club". From then on, every month on that exact day, you make them different baked goods. This would probably only sound appealing to people who like baking - but if your boyfriend has as big of a sweet tooth as mine does then he will absolutely love it. The only thing is that once you start you have to commit to it! I made my boyfriend cookies and sent him off to boarding school with it last year and I totally gained girlfriend points from the hockey boys for it. Just saying.

4. Relationship Book. This is the gift that I will probably be making for my boyfriend. All you need is to buy a photo album and print out a lot of pictures. I'm planning on finding a picture for each month that we have been together and highlighting special moments for each month and writing about it. Bonus points if you have old movie stubs or concert tickets.

5. 52 Things I Love About You. This idea has also been floating around Pinterest and Tumblr for awhile now. The idea is that you get a deck of cards and paint over one side. On each card you write one thing you love about them so when you're done you will have 52 reasons. Very cute and simple.

6. Date Idea Jar. We've all been there. Sometimes it's just so hard trying to decide what to do for date night! For this gift all you need is to get a little jar and write down different date ideas, I'd say at least 30 of them. They could range from a movie date to a walk in the park. This way you'll never have to struggle to figure out what to do for date night ever again!

7. Photo Collage. One of my dearest friends just did this idea as a housewarming gift for her boyfriend's apartment. It's a photo collage of your favorite pictures that spells out your names. Personally I don't really like how it spells out their names, but it could be altered to spell out something different! PS this is not a picture of my friends I found this on the internet!!

So that finishes off my homemade gift ideas! Remember ladies, if you find yourself panicking about what to do last minute, a hand written letter always works. I hope these ideas were useful for you guys!

Birthday Overview + Anniversary Talk

Doesn't it feel like time is just flying by? This past weekend went by way too fast for my liking but I had the best weekend in a long time. On Friday I decided to throw my boyfriend a surprise party for his 20th birthday. I texted one of his teammates that I'm close with and told him to pass along the message to the other boys on the team. As Friday night approached I became more and more nervous. I hadn't met all of his teammates yet and they really are a crazy bunch. Luckily, the night was a success. Other than two of his teammates almost getting into a fight in my living room (seriously boys are so childish sometimes) and one extremely drunk teammate telling me that he liked my relationship with my boyfriend more than I did, everyone had fun. My boyfriend was happily surprised and it felt good to see him so happy, especially because the past couple of weeks have been hard on him. The best part? All of his teammates's were seriously impressed with my party planning and baking skills. Best compliment ever because I worked super hard on his cake. My boyfriend absolutely loved his presents too.

Now we're moving into grind time. He has a busy schedule for the next two weeks with hockey and I have lots of projects and papers due this week and finals next week. Thank goodness Thanksgiving break is only nine days away for me. And our anniversary is on Sunday! As our anniversary quickly approaches (it's six day's away) I can't help but marvel at how quickly the time goes. During the past couple of days I've had time to reflect over the past year that we've spent together. It's crazy to think that another year has already passed!

Although we are both pretty busy for the next two weeks I think it's so important to take time out of our schedules for each other. Sometimes it's easy to fall into a routine, and to be comfortable with just spending time together doing the same things. I think it's important to make anniversary's count. Make the time you have together a memorable experience, especially when it's an important date like a birthday or anniversary. So for our anniversary this year I think we might go into the city and spend the night together just us two. When you're in college its hard to be alone sometimes, especially when you're constantly surrounded by roommates, friends, teammates, family, etc. Plan a date for just the two of you, spend quality time together doing something you both love. I'm already so looking forward to Sunday and it's six days away!

Later this week I will be posting about the homemade gift that I'm making for his anniversary present. We decided not to buy each other anything this year because our anniversary falls directly in between his birthday and Christmas. I also will be posting about the story of how we met. I love retelling that story during this time of year.
I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Current Obsessions

Since my class got cancelled today and I'm sick in bed I thought it would be the perfect time for me to introduce my newest collection of posts. I decided to start blogging about my "Current Obsessions" as a fun way to tell you guys what has been on my radar lately! I'm not sure if it will be weekly or monthly yet - but I can't wait to hear what you guys think! So  let's get into it!

1. The College Prepster's blog

The College Prepster aka Carly Heitlinger is hands down my favorite blogger. I stumbled across her blog last July and I have been full blown obsessed ever since. I look forward to reading her posts with a cup of coffee in hand every morning, she has the best style and her new puppy is beyond adorable. I cannot stress enough how much I absolutely love her blog! You can check it out here: http://www.thecollegeprepster.com

2. Vineyard Vines Tartan Bow Skirt

After peeking at the Vineyard Vines Holiday Collection I immediately fell in love with this skirt. Tartan + Bows + VV = one happy girl. I NEED this skirt for Holiday parties this year. It will definitely be my first big purchase after getting my paycheck! And the fact that The College Prepster modeled it for the picture above makes it that much better.

3. Empowering Quotes

Fun fact about me: I live for empowering quotes. Seriously. Finding the perfect quote that fits my mood/ current situation can turn my whole day around. I could stay on Pinterest for hours looking at quotes. This is my current favorite.

4. Adore you - Miley Cyrus

This song has been on repeat for me during the last couple of days. Not a huge Miley fan but I really like this song.

And that concludes my current obsessions for the week! Tweet me @jr_hockey_gf and let me know what you think!

Halloween Weekend Overview

So it's official, I survived Halloween weekend. Surprisingly, I ended up going out every night. This weekend was the first time in my college career that I've gone out every night! Halloween night was definitely my favorite, probably because it was the only night that I was with my boyfriend. Also we went to an amazing block party at our favorite bar and danced all night. I'm beyond envious of the girls that got to dress up with their boyfriends every night.

On the first night (Halloween night) I was Daisy Buchanan and my favorite boy dressed up as Jay Gatsby. I might be a little biased buuut I'd say we were the cutest couple at the party.  I wore a simple black dress with lace details from H&M along with a few strings of pearls, red heels and bright red lips. I obviously had my boyfriend wear a red bow tie + suspenders because why not?

On Friday my costume was a bit of a disaster. I found a Victoria's Secret bag costume on Pinterest and used it as a last minute idea. I thought it would be super simple and also creative (nothing worse than the typical white girl costumes). Unfortunately, my bag ended up ripping on sides. Disaster central. Definitely my least favorite night but I guess you can't win them all. I traded the hot pink teeny tiny shorts for leggings and a nude heel because the slutty costume phase has passed for me.

I'm a little ashamed to admit that my costume last night was incredibly typical. I went as risky business. Sue me.

All in all, it was a good weekend. I'm eternally grateful for lazy sundays that are meant for maximum junk food/ netflix and minimal homework. Expect a post later this week - I have so many things to look forward to and I can't wait to share them with you guys!
